One of the fifteen new Central Universities created by the Government of India's Ministry of Human Resource Development in the XI Five Year Plan (2007–2012) under the Central University Act–2009 of the Parliament is Central University of Haryana.
In August 2023, the University was awarded a "A" grade in the second cycle of NAAC accreditation and assessment.
