Is CUCET compulsory for BCA at Chandigarh University?

 Yes, you can opt for the Appliued Mathematics paper in the CUET exam even if you studied Pure Mathematics (core) in class 12th, provided it meets the specific eligibility requirements of the university and course you are applying to. 

• NTA/CUET Guidelines: The National Testing Agency (NTA) allows candidates to choose any subject in the CUET exam, regardless of whether they studied it in Class 12, as long as the subject combination aligns with the specific university's programme requirements.
• Exam Structure: The CUET Mathematics paper has a common Section A (15 compulsory questions from both Core and Applied Maths topics), and then offers a choice between Section B1 (Core Mathematics) and Section B2 (Applied Mathematics). You would choose to attempt Section B2.
• University-Specific Requirements: This is the most crucial part. While NTA allows the choice, the participating universities have their own specific eligibility criteria for different courses.
  • For many Science courses (like B.Sc. Hons. Mathematics), the university may require the applicant to have passed the Core Mathematics in Class 12th and taken the corresponding Section B1 in the CUET.
  • For commerce/management-related courses (e.g., B.Com Hons, BMS, BBA), some universities require Mathematics/Applied Mathematics in Class 12 and accept either B1 or B2 in CUET.
