In 1987, DCRUST was founded as the Chhotu Ram State College of Engineering, Murthal. Later, in 2006, it was elevated to the status of university and given the new name Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology. It is a state university that is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and connected to the Haryana State Government. As measures of the caliber of instruction and facilities, the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) have accredited the university.

The university is accredited by the NAAC with an A Grade and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and is a member of various professional bodies such as the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), International Road Federation (IRF) and Indian Road Congress (IRC).
