Alagappa University is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi and obtained 2 (f) and 12 (B) status to receive UGC and central government grants. In 2017 the university obtained A+ Grade with CGPA of 3.64 grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Alagappa University is the first State University in Tamil Nadu to obtain the coveted A+ grade. In 2018, the university obtained Category–1 status and Autonomy status by the MHRD-UGC and also secured 4th position in MHRD-Swachhta Ranking 2018 for the cleanest Government Higher Educational Institutions in India.
