Is doing an MBA beneficial for an average student?

Hi! There is no such thing as average student. Everyone is special and talented. If you think that doing MBA will accelerate or give a good push to your career, then you should definitely do it. MBA will be definitely beneficial for you as it is an general Management degree which will help you in mastering Management.

The first question that every college is going to ask, why do you want to do MBA? Why not some other course? You should say that it is the only way to go for Ph.D or further study. Otherwise, students give answers like to get the dream job they are doing MBA that is true only sometimes. Also, until unless you are not into adapting things, you are not going to get the full benefits of MBA because MBA teaches you about the organizational structure and how each and everything works and how you are supposed to behave in an organisation. If you can adapt to these things then yes it's beneficial for an average student.

MBA is beneficial if you really want to get benefited from it. And the term "average student" has various meanings like you can be a weak or an average person in academics, but can be fantastic in other activities. MBA is not only about academics but about experiential learning and being a good leader as well as team player. So, someone who is not good in academics can be a good leader or good team player. Apart from this, one should be a good analyzer and planner. So, it can be said that you are the one who can make the difference. It's not about being an average student (in academics terms) but it about your passion and zeal, and what you want to make out of the MBA. MBA is such a course where you need to be wholly devoted in building your personality for the industry. Having a bad past academic background won't bother/hamper you that much. After all, it is this 2 year course that would help you to get a job, not your past academic experiences. A good college will always focus on developing your body language, personality, and your presentation skills along with the domain knowledge. So, I will be advising you to start your preparation for getting an admission in MBA, if your only constraint is bad student according to marks. Start with the basic things like preparing for Common Aptitude Test (CAT), Management Aptitude Test (MAT), Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), etc. Start reading newspaper, as that would be helping you to crack the Group Discussion (GD) round and it would be carry forwarded by Personal Interview (PI).

MBA is a course, which helps majority of people in one way or another. Secondly, MBA is not a book based study, it is a study which a person had to do with his /her conceptual skills, you will also learn about the case based learning, experiential learning any being a good leader as well as team player. So, somehow who is not good in academics can be a good leader or a good team player. Many of you may be good analyzer or planner also. So, it can be said that you can perform best in MBA and nurture your career more effectively after this course. Thirdly, MBA education also provides you with some skills like communication skills, analytical skills, research skills, stress management skills etc.

How do we decide who is a below average student or who is excellent? Some people are good with numbers but struggle with languages. Some are the exact opposite. Some are good with both but are not confident enough to perform in the exam. 80% of the students who have cleared CAT and took admission to one of the IIMs are average students only. So, if they can do it then you can do it too. Cracking CAT requires more common sense and less formula mugging. You are here to learn, so stop thinking you are an average student. Shifting gears and pursuing a new career path can sometimes seem like an impossible dream, particularly if you have been working in the same industry for a long time. Developing new skills could easily be the catalyst you need to kick-start your transition from one career field to another. Today's job market is more turbulent than ever before, filling many with uncertainty and fears of being left out. Getting an MBA will improve the situation for you no matter who you are. And always remember, anybody can learn anything.

Yes, doing MBA is beneficial for any graduate student. It all depends on individuals field of interest and perseverance. MBA course structure is bit hectic and students with zeal and vigor excel. MBA provides great networking opportunities. Student gets to know and interacts in a context that accentuates his/her business management capabilities with colleagues, professors and teaching staff (usually former or current potent business people, with great management experience). If a student chooses to study an MBA abroad, he will not only gain a new perspective on how businesses are handled but get to experience living in a different country. This will broaden his/her cultural and intellectual horizon, and business career prospects as well. In all, MBA course structure is designed in such a way that it allows students to think out of the box and hawk eye view of any process.

I would like to tell from whatever I have experienced being an average student- 1) Confidence: MBA definitely boosts your confidence in terms of everything. I had never given a speech in front of 100 odd people before. But after coming to MBA you have to give number of presentations, group discussions and lot of things that will build your confidence and also develop your personality. It gives you confidence to express yourself and your views to everyone. Teaches you to deal with people: As a manager you have to deal with lot many people in order to get your work done. In fact, to grow your business you have to expand your network. This is not possible without knowing the art of dealing with people. This is not taught to you, but you learn this inherently during the course. 2) Understanding Functioning of business: Although people specialize in particular field like HR, finance, marketing, etc. Everyone gets the taste of everything. After all to become manager or even to become entrepreneur you ought to learn how business runs. 3) Advancement in career: Being MBA provides pace to your career. Be it in terms of promotion, designation or earnings. You become a part of Management and thereby learn the art of decision making. It then depends on you to climb the ladder from bottom line managers to senior management. 4) Adaptability: As a manager you have to deal with people with different mentality as well as different scenarios. So how do you tackle disruption, how do you control the situation, how do you adapt to ever changing environment is one thing that you learn from MBA. So far I think this are the advantages that MBA has brought in my life. Of course there are other advantages like high package, better designation, etc. as well so you can go after it.
