    GITAM (Deemed to be University), Visakhapatnam is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). It was granted the status of deemed to be university in 2007. This means that the university is fully autonomous and is not subject to the control of the UGC. GITAM is also recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). Moreover, GITAM Visakhapatnam has been accredited with the NAAC with Grade A+. .
