Yes, IIM Sambalpur is a government institute. IIM Sambalpur was established in 2015 by the Government of India. It was granted the status of 'Institution of National Importance' by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Government of India. The institute is governed by a board of governors appointed by the Government of India. The permanent campus of IIM Sambalpur is being constructed on 237 acres of land allotted by the Government of Odisha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the permanent campus in January 2021 and inaugurated it in February 2024.
