IISc Bangalore was established in 1909 and is approved by the University Grants Commission. IISc Bangalore is also a member of the Association of Indian universities and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade and has been ranked 1 and 2 by the NIRF 2023 Rankings under the 'University' and 'Overall' categories.
