Established in 1958, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is a public college. In 1961, it was declared an 'Institute of National Importance by the Parliament of India. It has been declared a 'Deemed University' and is autonomous in nature. It is the first public college to have laid its foundation stone with assistance from UNESCO. IIT Bombay has been ranked 172 in the QS World Rankings 2023.
