  • Yes, IIT Bombay is indeed considered to be expensive for students especially from middle- or lower-income families.

The fees here can range from INR8 Lacs to INR10 Lacs for the entire BTech programme (4 years) for general category students. This is inclusive of tuition, hostel fees, and other miscellaneous charges.

However, Indian government subsidizes a significant portion of these costs, making them more affordable compared to the unsubsidized cost of education.

The cost of studying at IIT Bombay can be considered high, particularly for students who come from middle- or lower-income groups. The IIT fee for every course is included in 8–10 Lacs for general-class students. In the last six years, the BTech course fee for general category students at the IITs has been raised from Rs 50,000 per year to Rs 3 Lacs per year. IIT Bombay graduates are known for recruiting top-paying jobs. So, this makes the investment less worthwhile. Moreover, scholarships are awarded to help students from low-income families who are in need.

It depends upon students perspective if IIT Bombay is expensive or not. IIT Bombay fees range from INR 30,000 to INR 42 Lacs depending upon the course selected by the students. However, students can apply for several scholarships in the form of free messing, remission of fees, assistantships, etc. The institute also accepts nearly all national scholarships offered by the Government of India.
