The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India established eight new IITs under the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act in 2011 and IIT Ropar is one of these. So, yes IIT Ropar is a government institute. The institute has been ranked 22, and 33 by NIRF 2023 for Engineering and Overall category. Additionally, the Indian Institute of Technology has also been ranked 86 by the Times Higher Education.
