    The Indian Maritime University (IMU) is a public central university in India. 
     
     It was established in 2008 by an Act of Parliament and is under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. 
     
     IMU was established to develop trained human resources for the maritime sector. 
     
     It is the only university of its kind in India.
