Is it a correct decision? I want to get into a reputed government college rather than IITs and NITs as they seek 75%.

So, I am planning for other good Govt. colleges through JEE Mains for B.Tech then after B.Tech. Also, I want to apply for Air Force or Navy through CDS. I've got 64% in CBSE board exams and am planning to drop a year for the preparation of JEE Mains.

As you have scored 68% in CBSE, you are not eligible for JEE Mains. There are two things which I can suggest you:
    1. You can prepare for IPU CET.
    2. Along with JEE Mains preparation, you can apply for improvement, for improving your CBSE score to 75%.
