Yes, it is compulsory to be good at computers to pursue a career in animation. Most employers require prospective animators to have a Bachelor's degree in animation or related field, as well as a professional portfolio, although some animators hold only a certificate or an associate's degree. Students typically take courses in drawing, 3D programming, computer graphics, video effects and graphic design. It is not mandatory to be good at using a computer to pursue a career in animation. However, there are different fields in animation which may require you to be proficient in using digital tools.
You don't need computer skills if you are doing traditional animation because you will be animating on paper. But then you will need the computer to scan and edit the paper animated drawing- you can take someone's help for that.
Even for stop motion animation you may not need a computer. But when you enter post production phase you will definitely need to edit on computer.
