Hi Trineer,
SAT is not compulsory and admission requirement depends on the country and universities. Mostly, it is required if you want to study in USA. If you want scholarship and a good university then you must have good scores, a good SAT and extracurriculars.
I did not get the total cost part, are you asking about tuition fee or SAT fee?

No, not all US universities are test-optional for undergraduate admissions. One of the popular Ivy League school - Princeton University does require an SAT or ACT score. Yale University also does not accept it until Fall 2025 intake. There are universities like Columbia University which have officially announced the scrapping of SAT and ACT scores for undergraduate admissions. Some US universities may require SAT or ACT scores based on admission to a specific course. Applicants are required to check the test optionality option if it is available or not. Applicants get their SAT exam scores within 13 days from the date of Digital SAT examination. On the other hand, applicants used to wait for several weeks to get their SAT exam scores on the paper version. Applicants ae at an advantage when taking the SAT Digital because scores are released within the stipulated timeline and are usually not delayed.
The Digital SAT is shorter than the paper SAT or the old version because of the following reasons:
- The Digital SAT is shorter because it is digitalised, thus, lesser paper work and faster answering online.
- SAT Digital has smaller reading passages in comparison to the previous version.
- There is one Math section, instead of two, and all questions can be solves using a calculator which makes the test shorter.
- The Digital SAT has a shorter duration keeping in mind the applicant's fatigue and overwhelm.
- Finally, the questions have reduced on the latest SAT and then the duration has also reduced overall.
