Is it essential for a student to be a graduate from IIT or NIT for admission to IIM?
My profile: 10th - 78%, 12th - 67%, engineering from Pune - 55%.

Not at all. There are students from various fields like commerce, arts, medical, as well as Non-IIT's and Non-NIT's.
