Ethical? - I am not sure if can answer on the ethicality.
Having said that, in our country the principle of "Survival of Fittest" is always true and hence in many ways parents have the responsibility to prepare children for future in the best possible manner. Engineering certainly helps assure them of a better future and somewhat better social status.
Also, bear in mind, engineering is perhaps the only branch of study that can get you job fastest compared to any other stream of study, whether it is - medical, law, commerce, humanities or anything else. Four years of study after 12th and minimum social status is almost assured.

Yes, parent's pressure plays a major role in the development of any student but it depends upon the way parents treat their child. And parents are also tied with social status, expectations from the child and settled life. For all these things, they forget to check the interest of their child and give a chance to enhance their dream into reality but generally, parents go with the trend of engineering then going for it without thinking that my child is capable or is he/she is interested in it or not. If he/she is interested in engineering then only try to force them to achieve their dreams. Mainly toppers of IIT start studying since 7th
