Is it good to do a job for 1-2 years and then take a leave for about an year to prepare for GATE and IES and crack it.?

I have some financial issues and i can't pay the fee for gate coaching right now. i'm preparing from my own bt still if i could not crack it this time then i want to take a job of my campus placement. do it for 1-2 years. save some money. and then drop a year to join a coaching, is it right?
