Again like science it pays to be at the cutting edge. For e.g. science students do better if they go for CS or IT since that are areas where development is taking place rapidly. Similarly in Design the cutting edge areas are UID/ UXD, 3D Printing, Immersive Technology, Augmented Reality, 3D Projection etc, besides of course Game Design and Animation. Of co

Lillian, surely you may pursue web design as a career. It offer very good potential and the last few years have seen a huge shortage of graphic and web designers. Usual Web Design course at Arena is 12-15 months on normal track. The course is called GWDD. Through this you'll be equipped for Graphic Design as well as PHP based opensource website integration, UI Design, etc besides Web Design and Flash Animation and Apps at the end of this period. This would ensure that you're ready for web design and development (the career you're looking at right now) as well as many more career options that the future holds for the design fraternity.

Hi Lillian, if it is the choice you have made then only your judgement matters. Another person cannot judge it right or wrong for you. Since you studied commerce for 3 years in BCom and still looking for career change then just go ahead and do it. Today all career options are good as there are opportunities everywhere. But, first visit all the animation and web designing institutes in your city and check about their performance and reputation from the people who have already done it before.
