Is it necessary for me to appear for JEE Mains exam before taking admission in a college to pursue B.Tech?

JEE Mains are mandatory to get into colleges like IITs, NITs, IIITs, and others. Apart from JEE Mains, there are also state level JEEs in many states that process the admission into colleges which are not affiliated to JEE Mains. There are also exams that are organized by some institutes to get admission into those institutes.
