No, it is not necessary to do B.Tech to be a scientist but even then it is the most preferred discipline for well reputed technological organizations. You can become a scientist even after doing B.Sc but, as I said before, now a days most preferences are given to B.Tech graduates over other science graduates. After completing your B.Tech you will be professional in a particular field, (Mechanical, Electrical, electronics, communications, IT, Aerospace, etc.) which is one of the important requirement of the Indian technological giants like ISRO, DRDO & NAL.

Not at all. You need not do B.Tech or BE to become a scientist. Basically, a scientist is a person with a knowledge and/or expertise in one or more fields of the sciences, like chemistry, physics, biology, nanotechnology or anything related to sciences. You can do B. Sc. in any field of science as mentioned or statistics. After that, Masters followed by PhD. Generally, you need to have PhD to join as a junior scientist.
There is nothing like an ideal branch to become a scientist. But core branches like mechanical, chemical may help you do research after your Masters.

    Hi,
There are many areas which offer PhD and R&D. It is not necessary to pursue B.Tech to become a scientist. I know many people who have not done engineering but went through traditional academic courses like B.Sc, M.Sc and later on, PhD. Currently, they are doing research as an associate scientist on microbiology.

No, B.Tech or BE is not necessary to become a scientist because in the end, you will have to pursue PhD for research. B.Sc and M.Sc may be a good choice. B.Sc and M.Sc are research based courses.
If you want to do B.Tech, you can choose the branch of your interest.
    That's all.
    Hope it helped.
    Thanks.

The answer is a big no. If anyone wants to be a scientist all he/she requires is a lot of curiosity and expertise in a particular field. Although B.Tech is one of the paths to achieve the required knowledge, it is not necessary.
Generally, a B.Sc in any of the sciences would do. Of course a PhD provides much deeper understanding in a specific subject in the field. Most of the scientists have a PhD and work in a very specialized subject.
Some of the well-known institutes that can help you be one are IISC, IISERs, IIST and IIS to name a few. One can get post of a junior scientist in ISRO directly after graduating from IIST. Other organisat

In India, a scientist typically finds a research job in:
One of the 37 CSIR labs.
Defence research organizations run by DRDO.
autonomous research institutes covering various disciplines.
ISRO, IIST and a few other organizations having direct tie up with ISRO and BARC.
The basic pre-requisites to even apply to these places for an entry level scientist job is:
Consistently good marks up to at least M.Sc or
An M.Tech (mostly engineering jobs) or a Ph.D in a relevant field of research.
    research output, I.e. research papers.
    Exams:
One can get into these institutes as a student at a different level, which is recommended to get a first-hand informati

It isn't necessary for you to get an engineering degree to become a scientist. You could get a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in a field of your choice and become a research scientist, or pursue a Master's degree in economics to become a data scientist. All the best!
