Is it necessary to do B.Tech to get into ISRO? Which are the ideal colleges/branches I should opt for?

It is not necessary to do B.Tech though it will raise your chances of getting into it. Through B.Tech, one need to have their stream of aeronautical and aerospace engineering. After completing the engineering, one has to go through a one year exam preparations and training process which after you will get into ISRO. Another and the most convenient way for ISRO lovers is to join IIST, which is Indian Institute Of Space Research. You can get through this college, your JEE Mains and Advanced marks but it is very difficult to get into as cut-off is very high and accompanying with the toughest national minds. Though if you are able to make your place, then you are provided with free education as well as free food and accommodation facilities. After graduating from them, they make you to work with ISRO by signing a bond for at least three years. This way, you can directly get into ISRO. In all, a degree from aeronautical and aerospace is needed. Or else, crack the entrance exam for ISRO. Thank you. I hope it helped.

I won't say it is necessary to do a B.Tech but it would tremendously increase your chances to get into ISRO. Best option would be getting into IIST (Indian Institute of Space technology). This institute offers three courses which are B.Tech in aerospace engineering, B.tech in avionics and a 5-year dual degree. For getting into IIST one has to appear for JEE Mains and JEE advance. The JEE advance scores are considered for admission into the institute although you should have some minimum qualifying score in the mains too. Please go through their official website <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.iist.ac.in/admissions/undergraduate" style='word-wrap:break-word;'>https://www.iist.ac.in/admissions/undergraduate</a> and read everything about the admission process in detail. If you get a GPA above 7.5 you don't have to pay any fee for that semester. So practically you can study for free at IIST. But you have to sign a bond with IIST to work for ISRO for few years. Everyone has to sign a bond of 5 years of service with ISRO. This is in exchange for the completely free education IIST provides you (you don't even have to pay for hostel or food, all your internship and project expenditures are refunded)! The bond is scary. It can cause problems if you directly want to go for higher education plus most people see the prospect of working in a scientific government setup much less attractive than working for a consultancy company. Please research in detail about the admission and the bond. IITs are also a good alternative to IIST.
