Is it necessary to do English honors before doing MA in English? How does it matter? Does it help in clearing the entrance test?

Definitely, English honors in BA helps you in doing MA in English. But if you have completed your graduation, your score in English must be better. Otherwise, you will not be allowed to appear in the entrance test.
