Is it necessary to have the bank statement in order to get the student visa of New Zealand?
Will it be a problem if the cheque gets bounced?

Yes, you have to show your source because you have to prove them that you are eligible to spend on your daily expenses as well as your university fees, without that no one will give you the study visa.
