Its not necessary to join classes.... You can even purchase their Study MAterial and Practice yourself...
Infact I would advice you to go and appear for a few mock tests to analyse your IQ level and the improvement requirement and based on the results - you can decide ....

It is not at all necessary to join coaching for test preparation.
The advantages of joining a test prep coaching are
1. Proper guidance
2. Structured course material
3. Mock tests to evaluate ones performance
4. Short tricks to solve question quickly etc.
