Yes it is necessary for a Science student to have chemistry in class 11 and class 12 since the Science stream comprises mainly of 3 subjects physics, chemistry and biology. You can opt to not have biology in your classes 11 and 12 by choosing non medical stream but you can not opt out chemistry as a subject since it is a mandatory subject in the Science stream for any child. The students are required to have both physics and chemistry as a mandatory subjects in their classes 11 and 12.
