Is it necessary to learn VFX if someone wants to pursue a career in gaming industry?

No. Visual FX and Game are totally different industries and technologies. Certain high end games do have VFX in them but to pursue a career in the game industry, Visual FX need not to be learnt.

Animation, VFX, Gaming are all co-related. You should atleast know the basics of all. Then, you can pursue any of them.
