Is it possible for one to prepare for engineering and film making both?

Yes, it is possible. First year is cool and hardly needs much study, second year needs some study but not too much but in 3rd and 4th year you need to be serious towards study. You can manage time according to it. I don't think it will be hard for you if you are passionate about film making. Take he
