Is it possible to migrate from one branch of engineering to another branch? What is the procedure?

Yes, it is definitely possible for one to migrate from one branch to another. The procedure for that is as follows: One cannot change his/her branch before going through 2 semesters. Then in both semesters, one needs to perform well or should try to get maximum CGPA as one can at the end of the academic year. Now, there are the students from various branches who particularly apply for one branch and out of all that lot, students are filtered on the basis of their number and availability of vacant seats. The ones who are getting the highest marks will get selected and the rest of the students should have to satisfy with their current branch. Start working hard from the date itself to change your branch. This facility is not provided in all the institutions but in almost all the deemed educational private institutions as well as universities. Thank you, I hope it will help you.

Yes, you can change your branch. Mentioned below are the cases in which you can join another branch: 1.There has to be the vacancy in the dept. to which you want to change. The vacancy is created if someone in the second year (in the respective branch) gets a year back. 2.After completion of 1st year (May-June), the college management will put up a notification on the website about the branch change procedure and the vacancies in each department available. So you have to follow the procedures, mention your SGPA and CGPA in the form and submit the same to the administration section within the stipulated time. 3.Among the branches available you have to select any three of them and prioritize. 4.The management will scrutinize your form and after a week will call you and inform you to come to college (principal's cabin) to participate in the procedure. 5.A lot of students say roughly (2535) will participate. Here the CGPA acts as a trump card. The college people will make a list of the students based on their GPA and the person with highest will get to choose first. When your turn comes up then you can choose whichever is available. 6.If you are a COMEDK/CET Student then you have to pay management fees to the college each year (2nd, 3rd, 4th year) along with some donation to the trust 7.If you are in ISE then changing the branch to CSE won't help you too much for placements. Placements for both the branch are almost the same. If you want me to generalize, than CGPA more than 9.2+ is good. You may be in top 10 among others. Hope it helps.

Hello, Whether you can migrate from one branch of engineering to another depends totally on the college that you are pursuing your engineering. Most of the colleges like IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Mandi, IIT Khragpur, IIT Rorkee, etc. and all other IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology), all the NITs like NIT Warangal, NIT Suratkhal, NIT Tiruchirapalli, etc. and private colleges like VIT University, SRM University, allow to change branches after first year. The only condition on which you are allowed to change branch if you score well in both the semester of first year, like your CGPA must be pretty high around 8.5+ or something, again it totally depends on the colleges how high the pointer criteria is. The procedure is actually quite simple, when the first year is over, the academic guys of college will roll out the forms for branch changes, if your pointers are good enough, you can fill up the form, the then will be a merit list kind of a thing where the names of students who can migrate to other branch is rolled out, if your name is in it, you can be sure of branch change. Hi, I would like to know as why are you going to take a decision? However, please see my answer below. Yes, every university and college have provided the option of branch change, for the students after passing first year so that if any doubt still prevails in the mind of a student after taking admission in first year, he/she can then change his/her respective branch in second year. The procedure for the branch change differs from university to university, but basically the procedure is that a minimum cut off is taken out for each branch and if adequate seats are available in that respective branch after applying for the branch change, then depending upon the number of applicants for the branch change, a final list will be taken out for each branch. This will be probably the common procedure, but may differ in certain terms and conditions.
