Is it preferable to pursue MBA in IB after completing BE in mechanical engineering?

Yes, you can go for MBA in IB. Though you are from an engineering background, during your 2-year course you will get the concepts of your course. The course will be mostly around corporates business, financial statement preparation and changes as per country's accounting principles.
