Is it really good to drop a year for doing engineering? Will it affect our placement statistics after getting into a college?

Hello Manas, If you missed it the first time and you know you made a mistake and are sure to get out of these problems and score good in engineering entrance exams then no problem, you can. Don't Worry about a year gap during the placements because if you get a good college then there is no problem
