Is it true that life as a fighter pilot involves far greater risks to life than that of a commercial pilot?

After all, it is not everyday that the country faces a war situation.

Military aircraft are rigorously maintained with numerous checks and regulations. There are teams of professionals making sure your machine is ready to go. Fighter pilots are trained rigorously and they fly with great control and safety protections. Commercial pilots are not getting those benefits. But commercial pilot's job has a price tag on it, and it is also risky. It all depends on how the pilot is trained and how well he/she has followed the rules and necessary precautions.
