LNMIIT functions as an independent non-profit organisation and was founded in 2002 as a public-private partnership initiative between the LNM Foundation and the Government of Rajasthan. As a result, it is a deemed university rather than a government or private university.

The LNMIIT is a deemed to be university. LNMIIT was established in 2002 as a public-private partnership venture between the LNM Foundation and the Government of Rajasthan and operates as an autonomous non-profit organization. Therefore, it is neither a government nor a private college but a deemed university.
