Is LPU good to pursue B.Tech in Civil Engineering?

Lovely Professional University is one of the best institutes for engineering in the state of Punjab. So if a degree in B.Tech (Civil engineering) is what you seek, I suggest that you do consider LPU. I have sound reasons to actually make this suggestion. Lovely Professional University is the only private university in India that has attained the NABL accreditation in the field of mechanical testing of building and construction materials. With better theoretical and practical knowledge, students are much more competent than any other university. Actually I did MBA from Lovely Professional University but I have one friend who has done B.Tech Civil Engineering From LPU. He told me B.Tech in civil engineering course involves so much more than theoretical know-how. In addition to classroom lectures, students here learn via hands-on experiences which include site visits, lab sessions and so on. PPTs, animations and similar technological techniques are a regular part of classroom teaching too. Also, LPU has one of the best educational infrastructures in the nation. The laboratories are designed to enable various assessments like soil testing, cement testing, concrete testing etc. The industry experts are involved deep in development of the design of curriculum to match up the industry expectations. They frequently refurnish what they deliver. Industry certifications, MOOCs, Hackathons, Workshops, Guest lectures, Educational Trips, Live projects, Incubation projects, Community projects, are an integral part of the curriculum. Well, I can give you the answer to this question based on the feedback received from students who are known to me and are currently studying Civil Engineering at LPU. Besides, few colleagues of mine who have previously worked in the same Deptt. So, the following are the highlights of Civil engineering in LPU: - 1. Most of the faculty staff are from reputed organizations with their the highest degree from various reputed institutes such as IITs, NITs, etc. Apart from that, faculty have got previous industrial experience also. 2. The capstone project is an integral part of the B.Tech programme in which students have to pick a live project based on the practical problem-based scenario (ideally from industry) and work for six months under a mentor and present a report at the end. This is beneficial to enhance your presentation skills. 3. There is an internship programme that could be an opportunity for getting work experience and increase your chance to get employment after you pass out. But, of course, your academic record should be good to get this placement option. 4. Industrial visits are organized to nearby construction sites from time to time. There, you can SEE actual construction work going on. Be prepared to have dust on your shoes (believe me, it will be worth a lot). You have to ask questions yourself and trigger interest in the activities around you. 5. You will get some courses from soft skills, English language, mental and analytical aptitude side. This sounds dull to you as of now. But you will feel its importance when you face an interview panel in a company during your placement drives. 6. They have very good placement records and good infrastructure companies visit their campus, L & T, Simplex Piles Ltd, Era Infrastructure, Gammon India Ltd to name a few. 7. Career-oriented Software training in project labs is given. To work in this profession, you are supposed to be familiar with software like MS-Project, STAAD Pro, MX Road, etc. Nonetheless, you will be trained in Auto CAD in your second year which is a prerequisite for any Civil Engineer. 8. Every theory course is complemented with relevant lab-based practical work. Some of the labs are based on field testing where experimental work is to be done, e. g. Soil Lab & Surveying Lab. The dept. Of Civil Engineering offers very dynamic study content. It not only focuses on teaching concepts of civil engineering but also lays stress on the practical application of the principles and theories. Being more interested in structural engineering I personally found the content of courses like, Design of Structures, Bridge design, Fluid Mechanics designed in such an interesting way that you hardly find any other university working on syllabus enhancement to such an extent as LPU does. The dept. Of civil engineering has all the required labs with up to date machinery and modern equipment. They also have a NABL-accredited lab for mechanical testing of building materials which makes LPU the only private university in India and the first university in Punjab to receive this accreditation. Their curriculum for civil engineering is revised every year by leading professionals in the field of the construction industry and the students represent LPU at various national and international level competitions for civil engineering. Their placements are also at par with the demand in the industry. Many construction giants like Linkhouse Buildwell, KEC international, L&T have been vising LPU for placements. They have labs maintained by Bentley which provides training for the latest software which are in demand by the industry. I'm alumni of lpu and from my experience, I can say lpu is the best, it has the best infrastructure and professional faculty is there who are always there for students. They conduct a series of test in each semester consisting of CAs (continuous assessment), mid-term and end-term which helps in evaluating the students performing in the right way. This university is best for the student who really wants to learn and grow in their respected fields. Lovely Professional University is the only private university in India that has attained the NABL accreditation in the field of mechanical testing of building and construction materials. With better theoretical and practical knowledge, students are much more competent than any other university.
