Is merchant navy as a career a good option for a girl?
I am a travel freak & want to travel the world. Also, I want to do something for the country but is not sure if I should or not pursue merchant navy as I have heard that it has now become very difficult to get a job in a good company. Also, I am doubtful about height and weight requirements.

6 years agoYes, merchant navy is the best option after maritime engineering, because here you are getting your career as well as money and visa to visit the whole world. If you want to live a different life other than normal, then come and join merchant navy. -
Hi Shruti,
Of course, it is a good career option. It is a very rewarding field and lets you travel the entire world. Although, the field is highly men dominated. But gradually women are also coming forward to be a part of this industry. You must have heard about Radhika Menon; India's first merchant navy captain. You must take inspiration from her life. As far as the physical requirements are concerned, these are the standards:
1. Eye Sight = 6/6,
2. Height = 167 cms,
3. Weight = 50 Kg
4. Chest = 77 cm (Normal) / 82 cm (Expanding)
