In 1934, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was elected to the Association of American Universities and, since then is qualified among R1: Doctoral Universities (Very high research activity).
MIT's researchers have invented or developed the following:
- Magnetic-core memory, radar, single-electron transistors, and inertial guidance controls;
- High-speed photography and sonar;
- Modern information theory and discovery of the application of Boolean logic to digital circuit design theory;
- Cybernetics, artificial intelligence, computer languages, machine learning, robotics, cryptography, and much more.
