Is my articleship experience counted as work experience?

I am a CA and am considering PGPX programmes from IIM for which most colleges require about 4-years of work experience. I want to know if my 3-years of articleship experience be considered as work experience for the programme.

Technically, an intern is still a student working towards a degree. So, apart from working full-time in the articleship there are also academic obligations and exams to take care of. Some schools like ISB are pretty clear about the fact that articleship experience is not counted as work experience.
