Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU) in Kolkata is considered one of the top state universities in West Bengal. It was established in 1997 and is the only open university in West Bengal. It's also known as the second-best university in Kolkata for distance education, and it was awarded the Excellence in Distance Education Award (EDEA) by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL). It's also been recognised as the best innovative university for using ICT in vocational education and training.
