Sambalpur University is a public research university located in Burla town, of district Sambalpur, India, in the state of Odisha. The university was established in 1967 by the Odisha Legislature to fulfill the long-cherished dream of the people of Western Odisha for the establishment of a university. The university is spread over 670 acres surrounded by dense reserve forest of Burla town. The governor of Odisha is the chancellor of the university, Therefore, Sambalpur University is a government institution.
