Sikkim University, Gangtok is not a private university. It is a central university established under an Act of Parliament of India. The university is fully funded by the University Grants Commission in New Delhi. The university has six schools of studies and 32 academic departments offering various undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs. The university is currently located in Gangtok, the state capital, and operates from several rented buildings located along NH-10.
