Due to the German public education system, SRH North Rhine-Westphalia typically charges higher tuition than the University of Cologne, a public university that charges little to free tuition for overseas students. Nonetheless, some students may find that SRH's private, practice-focused curriculum, smaller class groups, and individualised attention make up for the higher tuition. Furthermore, living expenses (housing, food, and travel) in North Rhine-Westphalia are similar to those in Cologne. The decision between the two schools may ultimately come down to personal preferences for price, curriculum, and campus life.

The University of Cologne is inexpensive than SRH North Rhine-Westphalia, because it does charge tuition fees.  SRH North Rhine-Westphalia is a private college, even as the University of Cologne is a public university.  The average tuition fees at SRH North Rhine-Westphalia are around 8,000 EUR per year, ranging from 5,000 EUR to 9,400 EUR for both EU and non-EU students. In contrast, the University of Cologne does not rate training fees, only a small administrative fee of around three hundred EUR per semester.
