is their any need to touch in daily news paper reading in past for selecting optional pollitical science & sociology for upsc exam

i am graduate student of ayurveda, and not reading daily news paper in my past, now decided to take pollitical science and sociology as optional subjects for upsc exam is there right or wrong or selecting another options, if yes then suggest me.

    As long as you are comfortable with the Optional its fine , and You must take up History , Geography of VIII and IXth NCERT also . If you are not reading NEWS paper then you should start . Hindu and Chronicle are most advisable for UPSC preparation

    As far as choosing the subject is concerned you should take up those subjects with which you are completely comfortable with and have good hold on the its fundamentals. However, yes it would definitely help you if you read newspaper to know subject like political science more.
