Periyar University has a dedicated sports department or complex. The university has a huge space for outdoor activities such as football, cricket, kho-kho, basketball courts (2000 sqm), badminton, etc. The university regularly organises the All-India South Zone Level Kabaddi, Volleyball, Football, Basketball, and Handball tournaments. Periyar University library is operational throughout the week from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm on weekdays and 10.00 am to 5.00 pm on weekends. 

Periyar University asks the candidates to have a minimum bachelor's degree of three years duration. Students should have at least an aggregate of 50%, while reserved category students require 45%.
