As per the new UPPSC Exam Pattern,  there will be a 0.33% negative marking for every incorrect answer. Each paper will be conducted for 2 hours. There shall be a negative marking of 0.33% for every incorrect answer. The candidates must appear in both the papers of the preliminary examination for evaluation. The minimum qualifying marks for the UPPSC exam vary for different categories, with SC/ST candidates required to score 35% in both the Prelims and Mains exams, while other categories must score 40% in both stages.

It is true that the preliminary exam for the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) exam uses a negative marking scheme. One-third (0.33) of the marks allotted to that question are subtracted for each wrong response. This is applicable to the General Studies Paper II (CSAT) as well as the General Studies Paper I. But there's no harm in not responding to a query. This negative marking is used to make sure that applicants answer questions thoughtfully and to deter guesswork. In order to reduce the impact of negative marking and optimise their final score, candidates should ensure they have prepared thoroughly and provide answers

  • The candidates should note that there is a negative marking in the UPPSC Prelims exam. The candidates should mark their answers carefully because the negative marking reduces the score drastically if the answers are not marked judiciously. The negative marking in the UPPSC PCS prelims exam is summarised below:

UPPSC General Sudies Paper 1 Marking Scheme
    AnswerMarks Assigned
    Correct Answer1.333
    Incorrect Answer- (1.333/3)

The candidates should note that there is a negative marking of same quantum in the UPPSC prelims General Studies paper 2 also.
