Yes, VIT Vellore is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited with an 'A+' grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It was established in 1984 as a self-financing institution called the Vellore Engineering College under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.

The university is accredited with A + Grade by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council), MHRD. After getting the approval status, one can say that VIT Vellore was ranked by various ranking bodies. The university is ranked in the band of 791-800 under the QS Asia World University category by QS World University Rankings 2025. All the undergraduate, postgraduate, and other courses are approved by UGC which is a statutory body that is set up by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government.
