Is work experience necessary for MBA admission?

In India, except ISB nobody ask work experience. However, if you want to pursue MBA from Singapore, UK, USA, Australia etc, you must have 3 years or more work experience. The work experience should be majorly in the public listed companies or known brands at any level. However, experience at managerial or supervisory role is always preferred.
