hello dear, its your interest to choose the subject for ias because it requires so much of hard work . you will check the syllabus of all the subject in which intrested. Mostly students pich history for this exam as all of student have mandatory subject in schooling and have some knowledge about it

It is better to choose from subjects which either you have studied earlier, or have interest in.But average knowledge will not do. Know/refresh the basics, and then an analytical study and critical appreciation --not from one viewpoint , but from many.I feel both history and political science are
