Masters in Canada is confusing,what should I take up Mengg or MAsc?looking for course related studies not thesis.Megg good enough?in ECE

In US univs we have to decide to take up course based or thesis based MS,but in Canada application for both are separate. Therefore,i am apprehensive ,is M.Engg as good as Masters from US univ?.I am looking for Electrical dept.Will be applying to to UBC and Univ of Calgary.
