Sikkim Manipal University is recognised by various authorities. You can check with UGC/AIU. Indian degrees are recognised by UGC whether it is regular or distance mode.
Placements are totaly best on student performances, communication and confidence.
No institutes will give you place

SMU is a very renouned university and about placements it mostly depend on the students soft skills.
