NIT TRICHY is now the best NIT in India. He got good marks. SC category will help him for sure. he is definitely have a chance to get NIT TRICHY. The rat race is so much high for that. So, maybe, the last round of counselling will see him get the desired college.
    All the best.

In case he doesn't get his desired college, don't settle for some mediocre college. Instead of settling down for some mediocre college, it would be better if he tries for some good private university. Many reputed private universities are offering B.Arch. They have their different criteria for admissions. Some offer admission on basis of JEE scores, some offer admission on basis of NATA and some offer admission on the basis of both. He has got good marks but the competition for NIT, Trichy is very high. Still there are some chances of getting it. Try in the counseling. Also, add some other NITs along with this NIT.

NIT Trichy is among the top NITs which offers B.Arch course. Though your son has a very good ranking, still, the competition will be tough. Many of the students also go for various SPAs as some of them perform better than NITs of the country. Below are the best recommendations which you can move after NIT Trichy:
    MSRIT through NATA.
NIT-Bhopal, Calicut, Hamirpur, Jaipur, Nagpur, Patna, Raipur, Rourkela, Trichy, Kozhikode, Vnit. SPA - Vijayawada, Bhopal, Delhi, Bhopal. Mizoram University, Aizwal and IIEST SHIBPUR.
The above are the top colleges which you are likely to get. These are all government or are government-aided.
    Best of luck.

You may try for JoSAA counselling but it's quite difficult as the seats close within a decent rank in ST category.

    Hey,
There is less probability of him getting admission based on previous year's closing rank even in the category wise list.
You can check which all colleges he can apply for by clicking on this link-
